Charlestown Five Cents Savings Bank is incorporated.

1854

It is located initially in a brick building (first) City Square. Its charter allows the bank to accept deposits as small as five cents. Phineas Stone serves as president from its founding until his death in 1891. The bank builds a new building (second) in 1876.* It merges with the Blackstone Savings Bank in 1945, changes its name to the Charlestown Savings Bank and moves to a new headquarters on Washington Street in 1950, and moves to the Bunker Hill Mall in 1978.
